Emerging Alumni Leaders: Meet Camille Huang

IUAA Student Fellow Kaitlin Scott sits down with Camille Huang, BS ’13 and Vice President of IU’s Asian Pacific Islander Alumni Association.

Camille came to Indiana University Bloomington from Maryland, and she entered as an Elementary Education major. She quickly realized this was not the path for her, and thanks to her time teaching group fitness classes at the Student Recreational Sports Center, she switched to a Health Fitness Specialist degree. Within this degree program, Camille enjoyed the opportunities to go out into the Bloomington community and do hands-on work to combat childhood obesity. Because of her story, Camille encourages IU students or younger alumni to follow their passions and to not be afraid of the unexpected. She said being involved in an IUAA community or affinity group is a terrific way to make tangible change that hopefully ripples outward.

Editor’s Note: This video was filmed on January 17, 2023. The stabbing incident Camille mentions occurred on January 11, 2023. James C. Wimbush, IU’s Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs, issued this statement regarding the incident. On February 4, IU’s Asian Culture Center, in partnership with the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association (APAPA), Indiana University, and the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) invited the community to a rally in support of Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islanders. The rally included local leaders and Indiana University students and officials coming together to stand up against hate, bigotry, and discrimination and promote unity.
