Alumni events are a great opportunity to recruit and recognize members!

During your event, set up a membership table (this can be part of your registration or welcome table). Encourage attendees to join or renew at the discounted event rate of $40 (regularly $50) as they check in. Another great time to ask attendees to join is when a speaker is addressing the entire group. Don’t forget a well-positioned sign touting membership.

Give appreciation to members who have come to your event. A “Member” sticker for nametags or clothing is one public way. During remarks, make sure to give a “thank you” and a round of applause to put a deserved spotlight on members’ commitment. Gestures like this also remind nonmembers that it’s time to join.
