Creating a new email campaign

Note: DO NOT click the Create button. Constant Contact has removed the ability to save templates so this route will not allow for the selection of the new template that has been created for the account.

The following steps will guide you through finding, copying, and creating an email campaign using the IUAA template.

  1. Click the Campaigns menu item at the top of the page.
  2. Click the arrow next to the Folders to show the subfolders.
  3. Click the Templates subfolder.
  4. Click the More menu next to the template.
  5. Select copy to make a duplicate. Use the duplicate to craft a new message.

Pro Tip: Once an email campaign has been sent following these steps, you may skip the first 3 and go straight to 4 & 5 to start a new email campaign. This is because once a message has been sent from the correct template, it can simply be copied to start a new email campaign directly from the main page.

Editable areas

IU is more than a renowned university, it’s also a brand that people connect with. Because of this, it’s important that we use the correct email templates to gain instant recognition from alumni no matter how they connect with us. Use the IUAA template in all email campaigns in accordance with the following guidelines to ensure consistency and retain the integrity of the Indiana University identity.

Header (A)

Description: The section at the top of the template that has a crimson bar above the chapter/community lockup with a white background.
Usage: No alterations to this area are allowed and it should not be removed.

Headline (B)

Description: The section below the header with a crimson background and white text in a large font size.
Usage: This block should be used for the main headline of the email and should not be removed

Content (C)

Description:  The section below the headline and above the join button section.
Usage: This area is where the email content should be built using the blocks from the Build tab. Multiple layouts are available in 1, 2, or 3 column options.

Join Button (D)

Description: The section below the content section and above the social links section that has a crimson background with a white button saying “Join or renew now”.
Usage: No alterations to this area are allowed and it should not be removed.

Social Links (E)

Description: The section below the join button section with a gray background.
Usage: This area may be edited, but not removed. Links to social platforms can be changed to Chapter/Community specific URLs. Additional platforms can be added, but the following four platforms should never be removed: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. If the Chapter/Community does not have one of these platforms, then the general IUAA links should be left in place. No other items should be added to this area. The default links are as follows:

  • Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/IUALUMNI
  • Twitter – https://www.twitter.com/iuaa
  • Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/iuaaofficial
  • YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/user/IUAAvideos

Footer (F)

Description: The section below the social links section with a standard white background.
Usage: This area can only be changed through an IUAA liaison and requires a special request to Constant Contact.

Background Color (G)

Description: The white background area around/behind the email.
Usage: No alterations to the background color are allowed and it should remain as the standard white color.
