In my role with the I Association, I interact with current and former student athletes regularly. It is important that we all understand the guidelines of the NCAA and our interactions with talented prospective students (“prospects”), so I’m providing some helpful reminders:

As an Indiana University (IU) season ticket holder, alumnus, Varsity Club member, or fan, you are considered a representative of IU athletics interests (“booster”) as defined by NCAA regulations.

As a booster of Indiana University Athletics, you are not permitted to contact (i.e., in-person, call, text, etc.) any prospects, nor solicit their enrollment to IU.

Please note that the following are not permissible under NCAA regulations (not an exhaustive list):

• It is not permissible for IU boosters to contact (i.e., in-person, call, text, etc.) any prospects
• It is not permissible for IU solicit the enrollment of any prospects
• It is not permissible for IU boosters to contact a prospect’s coach, principal or counselor in an attempt to evaluate the prospect

Exception: Former IU student-athletes may have on-campus (IU’s campus) contact with prospects while prospects are on-campus for an official or unofficial visit.

Please note that the following are permissible under NCAA regulations:

• It is permissible for IU boosters to observe a prospect’s athletics contest on their own initiative, provided no contact occurs with the prospect or the prospect’s family members
• It is permissible for IU boosters to recommend prospects to the coaching staff of the applicable sport

If you have a relationship with any prospect that IU is recruiting, please contact OCS to see if the pre-existing relationship meets NCAA requirements.
