Grateful: IU Day and Every Day

The 4th Annual IU Day was celebrated on April 10, 2019, and we are so grateful for your commitment in making it a success for the IU Alumni Association! The power of connection across the globe is truly astounding and it is thanks to you that we are able to reach so many people and celebrate Indiana University on IU Day and all year around.

This year, 57 communities collaborated to host 50 events across the nation and in seven locations globally – connecting with and inspiring more than 2,000 alumni in attendance. Your alumni presence celebrated, served, and inspired local communities through community-service projects, IU-themed spirited events, and commitment to supporting our students through the many scholarship opportunities available.

Because of your support, we were able to secure almost $18,000 in student scholarship support on IU Day, and continue to support the programs and services the IU Alumni Association offers through more than $20,000 in private support. For the second consecutive year we celebrated over 420 gifts given to the IU Alumni Association – the most gifts given on IU Day from a single entity!

While these are impressive numbers, and we take pride in this success, the real story is in the power of meaningful and intentional connection with one another. On April 10th, our Student Alumni Association spent the day stuffing IU-themed teddy bears by the Showalter Fountain – connecting with other students across campus. Families of IUAA employees and friends poured in and out of our building, dressed in their IU best – sharing their IU stories of connection, inspiration and pride. Pictures were shared on social media and with each other across the nation and the globe, creating the feeling that even though friends are miles apart, we all share the same love and gratitude for IU.

It is always so inspiring to see our values carried out every day. Collaboration, Commitment, Pride, Inclusion. While we came together to celebrate Indiana University on IU Day, the most important celebration is in living and supporting our values – on IU Day and every day.
